If you recently visited TG007.net or TechGear007.net, you probably noticed that both domains now bring you here to err0r.net.
That is intentional.
For now, TechGear007 is no longer operating as a separate website. The old TechGear007 downloads are still available in the Downloads section here on err0r.net, so the useful parts of the site have not simply vanished into the internet wilderness.
The bigger question is whether TechGear007 will eventually return as its own website. Honestly, I have not made that decision yet.
Why TechGear007 Is Redirecting Here
TechGear007 has used Invision Power Board as its forum software for many years. It is a solid system, and its cost is not outrageous, but it still costs money and requires regular updates, maintenance, and attention.
That made sense when the forum was active and regularly used. These days, however, the TechGear007 forum receives very little activity.
Most of the site’s remaining value comes from its archive of downloads and years of forum information. Some of that information is still useful, while quite a bit of it is outdated. Technology has a habit of turning yesterday’s essential tutorial into today’s archaeological artifact.
Meanwhile, I have developed my own forum and download systems here on err0r.net. Building my own software gives me much more control over how everything works, what features are added, and how the site develops in the future.
Maintaining Two Websites No Longer Makes Much Sense
Bringing TechGear007 back as a standalone website would probably require a complete rewrite.
I could invest the time and energy into rebuilding it, but it is difficult to justify maintaining two separate websites when err0r.net can provide the same services TechGear007 offered—and potentially provide them better.
Running two sites would mean maintaining two sets of software, two communities, two download systems, two forums, and twice as many opportunities for something to break at the worst possible time. Because websites apparently know when you are tired.
Consolidating everything here allows me to focus my time on improving one system instead of dividing my attention between two similar projects.
What Happened to the TechGear007 Downloads?
The old TechGear007 downloads are still available.
You can find them in the Downloads area here on err0r.net. My goal is to preserve the useful files from TechGear007 while making them available through a newer and more manageable system.
Registered members can also contribute downloads, much like they could on TechGear007.
Should You Sign Up for err0r.net?
Yes.
Creating an account on err0r.net allows you to participate in the forum, contribute downloads, interact with other members, and use the newer systems I have built.
The goal is to provide the same basic opportunities TechGear007 offered, but through a system that gives me greater control and is easier to maintain and improve.
TechGear007 members are welcome here, whether you were an active forum participant, a regular downloader, a contributor, or someone who occasionally appeared after breaking something on your computer.
TechGear007 Still Matters
TechGear007 has a lot of history.
I had an incredible amount of fun building it, maintaining it, experimenting with new ideas, and watching people use and enjoy it over the years. The community, downloads, forum discussions, and people who contributed all helped make the site what it was.
Whether TechGear007 eventually returns as a standalone project or continues pointing visitors to err0r.net, I want to sincerely thank everyone who was part of it.
The name and history are not being forgotten. For now, they are simply continuing here in a newer home.
