Key Work
Overall, the Buzzen project represents a full-stack community platform modernization effort. It combines legacy system maintenance, custom CMS-style development, UI/UX refresh work, database-driven features, moderation support, profile systems, chat-community integration, and ongoing improvements for a real-world online community.
Because Buzzen is an established system with legacy code, part of the project involved carefully modernizing without breaking older behavior. This meant working within existing PHP, Bootstrap, jQuery, and database structures while gradually improving maintainability, styling consistency, mobile responsiveness, and user experience.
I also worked on visual branding and promotional media for the project, including social graphics, meme-style community images, holiday graphics, and public-facing design assets. These assets were created to match the tone of the Buzzen community: casual, playful, recognizable, and community-focused.
On the backend and control-panel side, I worked on features for managing content, users, badges, profile data, newsletters, forums, polls, contests, and site configuration. This included creating and updating database tables, improving admin workflows, fixing legacy issues, and making the management tools easier to use. A badge and user-badge system was added so administrators could create, assign, and display custom member badges across profiles and user popups.
The project also included work on the Buzzen chat ecosystem. Buzzen is closely tied to real-time chat, so the site needed to support room discovery, member identity, profiles, badges, host tools, chat-related navigation, and supporting room listings. I worked on improving the presentation of chat rooms and member information so users could more easily find communities, recognize trusted users, and interact with the platform.
A major focus of the project was modernizing the public website without losing the identity of the original community. I updated key areas such as the homepage, member profiles, blogs, groups, room lists, news, messages, notifications, privacy pages, support pages, FAQs, polls, birthdays, memorial pages, and other community sections. The design work included improved spacing, better card layouts, stronger typography, cleaner buttons, improved contrast, responsive adjustments, and a more consistent visual style across older Bootstrap-based pages.
My work on the Buzzen project involved maintaining, modernizing, and expanding an established community system while preserving the existing user experience that long-time members were already familiar with. This included front-end design improvements, backend feature development, control panel enhancements, database updates, moderation tools, and ongoing quality-of-life improvements across the site.
