For whom the bell tolls

Thought I would polish off my blog and start posting again. Since things that piss me off seem to be the only way I get motivated to post I guess I will just go with it.

A couple of years ago the SEC tried to get rid of our beloved cowbells. Being a Mississippi State Fan and owning a cowbell go hand in hand. As a kid going to games the one constant ( cause winning sure wasn’t ) was the sound of thousands of cowbells ringing their support. But the SEC has deemed this as too much of an edge for MSU. Edge!!!!! We are a small school in the most competitive division in college sports. With power houses like Florida, LSU, Alabama, etc. I think the edge goes to those schools in terms of money and recruiting yet they get their panties in a twist because we shake a cowbell at a agriculture based college.

Their compromise was to “allow” it’s fans ( the very same fans and boosters that support and pay for the team ) to ring their bells only during times of stopped play. And are forbidden to ring them on the road. When did college football become a place to be quiet? During a play or an away game I can stand up and scream at the top of my lungs any profanity laced rant I want. I’ve heard many in my years as a MSU fan including chants of “Bulllllllshit” by the entire fan base including the kids. But if I ring my cowbell it is somehow wrong.

I watched with amusement as the Ole Miss Rebels turned into the Ole Miss Black Bears. I can understand the reasoning for that while I didn’t agree with it. But we are talking about cowbells. A tradition for a school in a power house division that doesn’t get much of the lime light. In fact usually they are a punch line when SEC talk starts. “LEAVE US BE” I say. Our cowbells are a tradition. Something us fans are proud of. It seems like such a small thing to people outside of MSU but if it’s such a small thing then why does the SEC make such a big fuss over it.

How about spending less time worrying about the noises we make and more time on figuring out a playoff system that doesn’t suck. Oh yeah I forgot those bowls make you tons of money no matter who wins. I forgot for whom the bell tolls didn’t I.

With the ongoing process of deciding who I should vote for in the presidential race, i’ve decided to give my views on some of the bigger issues. They probably won’t come in any particular order of importance. My views are my own and I will always back them up against anyone that wants to question them. If for any reason you have a question or an opposing point to what I say, you can post a comment. Just remember I am very passionate in what i believe and have no problems expressing my thoughts. While I may not agree with your thoughts on the same issues, I will do my best to respect your opinions.

Ok for those that read this thing i wrote a blog about britney spears. I think recent events have changed my opinion of her somewhat. As some of you may know she has lost custody of her kids to k-fed. She was warned that it would probably happen. After her warning, what did she do. Well she went a clubbin. Doesn’t sound very mommy like to me. After the court’s decision to take her kids away she took them to k-fed 2 days earlier than the court order. WTH!!! Sounds to me like her kids were just interfering with her party scene. I’m still under the impression she needs help, but after seeing this i must honestly say i really don’t care if she gets it anymore.

I’m so sick and tired of people’s b/s. I do my absolute best to treat people like I myself want to be treated only to get chit on. Here is a freakin news flash for everyone. I can’t help what other people do. I’m not their keeper. Everyone does what they do on their own accord. I don’t go around dictating how someone should act. While I maybe friends with someone it does not mean that I agree with everything they do. But that also means I’m not going to choose a side when both sides are as wrong as they could be. If you don’t want to be my friend because of what someone else does then forget you. I don’t have many friends but i’ll be damned if I’ll go around begging or apologizing for something i had no part in just to keep one. I just want a little bit of happiness in life I don’t think that’s too much to ask. But it seems filled with constant petty meaningless crap. So to anyone and everyone that thinks I should kiss their ass or change to suit them. BYE BYE DON’T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU WHERE THE GOOD LORD SPLIT YOU!!!! I “GOT” along without you before i met you and you can rest assured I’ll “GET” along without you!

Michael Vick Update!

Today i watched as Michael Vick spoke after the hearing where he pleaded guilty to crimes involving dog fighting. I feel a little better about his character after the speech. He did a few things I really liked. First and foremost he spoke as himself. He did not read from some prepared statement like most thought he would. He did not try and place blame on anyone else for his mistakes. I think Vick has taken in the initial right step forward. Time will tell on how sincere he is. I don’t prescribe to the people should automatically get a second chance. Especially when it comes to pro athletes. They are living a life that most ppl would kill for. I know it’s not all roses but it’s a heck of a lot better than what most of us go through everyday. I was for Vick never playing another down for the NFL. I’m still of that mindset but i will admit with the speech Vick gave today i’m now willing to listen and watch him in hopes he can gain a second chance.

I’m a big fan of the shows Man Vs. Wild and SurvivorMan. Basically the shows are about a man trying to survive in different hostile environments. For example being dropped in a remote jungle and having to find food, water, and shelter. Basic survival stuff. I’ve always thought Les Stroud ( SurvivorMan ) was a little better. In his show he has no camera crew. He basically sets up all the shots and lugs the camera equipment with him. Add to that the fact he is trying to survive in some of the harshest environments on our planet, i think doing the camera work as well is going way above and beyond. Bear Grylls ( Man Vs. Wild ) carries a camera crew with him. Both shows are pretty similar in format. They show you basic survival tactics and helpful tips from their years of experience. A few weeks ago Bear was demonstrating the fact that you can drink your own urine to survive. He fills his canteen full of hot fresh piss and gulps it down. Now i know in a survival situation you do what you have to do. I’d have been perfectly fine with him saying “hey guys, if you have to you can drink your own urine” but doing it when you don’t have to is something i feel he didn’t really need to do. In another episode he pissed on a shirt and wrapped it around his face and head to keep cool. I know it’s just a show and they are trying to give it’s viewers a real idea of what to do in that position. But please don’t drink your own piss unless you just have to.

Like i said, i’ve always liked SurvivorMan over Man Vs. Wild. I believe Les is a little more believable. He at least tries to set up a possible reason and circumstance for being stranded. I even bragged that he was a bit more legit as he did his own camera work. And to top it off i said “at least he doesn’t drink his own piss”. Well guess what! I watched an episode where he DID DRINK HIS OWN PISS. Now it was pointed out to me that he didn’t just piss in a cup and drink it. He used a method to filter the water from the piss. But to me it’s still piss. Add to that the fact that this time he was stranded with a boat and didn’t use the boat to escape. Why the hell would you try and survive in a jungle full of animals and insects that could kill you when you have a damn boat. Les really lost some respect points with me this weekend.

Local Politics

I’m from a relatively small town in Mississippi, so you can imagine when election time comes there is a lot of “goings on”. I live about 2 miles outside of town so we are assigned a supervisor that is supposed to speak for their district. Every year they come to the house give me a card and tell me they would appreciate my vote. My question is who the hell are you? If you want my vote it takes more than just telling me you would appreciate it. I want to know what you are going to do to improve upon the position you are running for. Same for elections statewide. I don’t want to vote for someone based on what their commercials say. How come there aren’t more debates. Now days it seems everyone has to agree on where and when the debate will be and who should and should not be allowed to speak. First off, if you are on the ballot you are in the debate. Secondly it should be mandatory not elective. State debates for major positions should be run on tv. Why not PBS. Seems like a good of a place as any. Don’t tell me the regular networks couldn’t make a few bucks on something like that too. Local elections should have town hall debates. Both should include questions from the state’s voters. If you think you can decide who is the best candidate by watching their commercials or reading their signs i feel sorry for you. You need to care more than that. And to the candidates: Tell me what you are going to do if i vote for you. Don’t just ask for my vote just cause you come to my house.

Atheists!!!

The atheists sure have come out of the wood work on youtube. Dare speak of religion and a mass of characters come down on you like a biblical plague of locusts (ha). I view their pretentious videos with a sense of amusement. The very things they are against apply to themselves yet they slide right on past that. Being an atheist is still a belief in something no more or less than religion. You are choosing to not believe the world was created by a God or Gods. News flash. That is still a belief in something. Many atheists take on an arrogant “i’m smarter than you” attitude towards people of faith. I’ll use the Christian faith as my example. Many atheists go on and on about how Christians think they are better than they are and how their way is the only way. Is that not exactly what atheists do? They say how stupid or weak willed Christians are and how they are just wasting their time believing in something that does not exist. Now I would like to know how is the atheist that says that any different than the Christian philosophy that they think they understand. Most atheists must have a little guide to being an atheist handbook, as they bring forth the same questions. In my many many debates I’m able to answer each question they pose. It’s never the same on the other hand. There is always a point in my questions to them that they are unable to answer. My favorite by far is I don’t know how the world came to be and I don’t care just as long as GOD didn’t do it. For a group of people that so love to use science to back up their theories on life, that seems very unscientific to me. One of the most fundamental rules of science is cause and effect. There can not be an effect without a cause. If that is a fact then explain how the universe was formed. Nothing can not become something. So how are we here. I hear some of you yelling Big Bang. Ok what caused that. Then what caused what to cause that. Eventually you get to a point of nothingness. If there is no GOD then tell me how nothing became something. I would love to hear it. No matter what you believe or do not believe you don’t have to be a jerk about it. I voice my opinion on religion when asked or provoked. I do not post videos on how stupid someone is because they have faith in something or in nothing at all. You are not better or worse than anyone else because of your beliefs. I believe each person should have the opportunity to research it for themselves. I do not believe in having an organized school prayer. I do believe that a person has the right to pray while in school whether they are a student or employee. Taking religion out of history is stupid and dangerous. I don’t believe the bible should be taught in public school. That is what the church is for. But i do believe you have to teach religion as part of history. This includes all major religions. In the future how do you explain the war with radical Muslims without explaining how their beliefs impacted the war. If history is as important as everyone seems to think it is then teach it like it happened. Not how you wished it did.

People Again!

Yeah i know i just did this one. This one deals with friends and friendships. What makes a good friendship? I obviously I have not idea. I thought it was just being there when a person needed help. Someone they could trust. At least that is what I thought it was. I’ve never had what you would call “alot” of close friends. Instead I usually have one or two people that i’m close to and the rest are just people I don’t call strangers. For me it’s not really easy to hang out with friends. I tell people up front my life is very very and i mean very busy. I have a job that is basically 24/7/365. And add to that two kids that I will drop anything else to be with and my time for extras is tight. Let me stress this again. I TELL PEOPLE THAT UP FRONT. I don’t know whether they think i’m exaggerating, lying, or what. But it always ends up with me being the bad guy because I can’t devote much time to them. I guess they have alot of free time and figure I have the same. On the subject of Friendship. Should friendship be a chore? Should you be made to feel like an asshole because you can’t devote major time to it? What do you do when your “friend” constantly berates your friendship abilities. How many times can you explain it has nothing to do with them as a person it’s simply a time issue. There is only so much you can take before you pop your top with someone like that. To me a friend is a friend no matter how often you see them. I made friends in the Marines Corps that I’ll probably never see again. Does that mean they are no longer my friend? I guess I just don’t understand people. How they can get so upset about such a small thing and blow it completely out of proportion. When a friendship starts to become more of a chore than a pleasure it’s probably time for the people to go their separate ways. Doesn’t mean either of the people are bad people. It just means that due to whatever personality conflicts the two just shouldn’t be friends. Not being friends should not mean they are enemies. Of course your other friends are going to take your side on the matter. That’s their job. There is nothing more sorry than to see one of their other friends or group of friends stick their nose into something they know nothing about. I know friends stick up for friends, but i would never want a friend of mine to do that to another person. I consider myself a pretty intelligent person and those little mind games aren’t going to upset me. All they do is make me think less of them. In my full life the last thing i want is drama. I will not tolerate it. Everything in my life isn’t perfect but I’m ok with that. I may bitch about my job but in truth i love what i do. It’s not the typical 9 to 5 same ole same ole everyday grind. Just from the one job my resume would look more like a book than a piece of paper. I have two of the best kids you could ever ask for and I treasure every single second I get to spend with them. I will cancel any plans I have just to spend any time with them. I’m fortunate to have a couple people in my life that understand this. They take me as I am and never ask for more than i’m willing or able to give. I don’t often talk about my personal life. Maybe it’s because I’ve been a loner most of my life or maybe i prefer self reflection or maybe even it’s because i’m a man from the south and we are taught to suck it up and be a man. I would like to take this time to just say a big thanks to two people. First to Cathey. I know you never read this so :P. She has been like a second mother to me for a long time. We don’t always see eye to eye but the great thing is when we don’t we tell each other like it is. Alot of people think she can be a real bitch but if you ever become her friend you couldn’t ask for a better one. Now let’s talk about Charity. I must only like C’s. Her life and outlook on life is very similar to mine. She is one of the most kind evil women I know. She is always willing to help others before herself and very few things rattle her. I’ve never met anyone that is more willing to help you than accept help for herself. She does it all with an air of modesty and dignity. I can’t thank you two enough for being my friends. Thanks for accepting me as I am and putting up with my quirks

What is wrong with people?

I’ve spent the last few hours reading up on the war in Iraq and various other things that are going on in the world. First let me say, I know i’m not perfect. I have many many flaws. BUT! I do TRY to live my life by a strong sense of right and wrong. We keep claiming to be so intelligent, how we’ve come so far as a people yet it seems we are just finding easier ways to hurt each other. I’m tired of seeing death. It makes my soul cry for my children to see the world isn’t getting better. I just can’t wrap my head around people that want to harm others. I try my best to treat people with respect. I’m 32 and I still do the yes ma’am/no sir/thank you that i learned as a child. I’m seeing that in fewer and fewer kids these days. Kids have to learn respect they just don’t acquire it. Teach them. I don’t know what the reason for it is. Whether it’s taking religion out of school, taking respect for your country out of school, single parenthood, or whatever the other countless reasons people come up with. All I know is I think all those things made ME a better person. I stood up every morning and said the pledge of allegiance to the United States of America. I prayed with my class each day before lunch. I was taught by my parents and grandparents what right and wrong was. What it meant to respect your elders. How to treat others as you would like to be treated and treat them kindly even if they do not return it. Where has that gone. Has that been replaced with the lax moral judgment of today’s peers. I guess there isn’t a lot of gray in my life. Things are pretty much black and white with me. It’s either right or wrong. There is no in between. Yet the in between is enough to keep a world full of lawyers driving nice foreign cars and women that can’t tell the difference between love and money. What do we do to change it? Where do we start. The only place we can. Our children. The governments of the world are so full of themselves they are beyond repair. The do-gooders are over powered by the do-whatwesayers. Anyways I’ll end this little semi-rant now. Check out the current mood music below.
